Born on December 21, 1982 in Nacogchodes, Texas, Philip Gregory Humber is a professional baseball player who is currently a member of the Kansas City Royals organization. A graduate of Carthage High School in Texas, he went to professional baseball in 2001 as a 29th round pick of the New York Yankees in the 2001 Major League Baseball amateur draft. However, he did not sign with the team and instead went to Rice University where he became a dominant pitcher. He was named as the National Freshman Player of the Year from the Collegiate Baseball with his 11-1 record and an earned run average of 2.78.
He was again drafted by the New York Mets in 2004 and went to spring training in 2005. He played for the Single-A team St. Lucie where he recorded 2-6 and 4.99 ERA. After his period with the Mets, he played for the Minnesota Twins together with Carlos Gomez, Deolis Guerra and Kevin Mulvey. He played five games for the Twins and posted a 4.63 ERA and 11.2 innings. He signed with the Kansas City Royals on December 15, 2009 but unfortunately obtained an injury on June 10, 2010 while playing for the Omaha Royals.
