Internee Deon “Penny” Hardaway is a retired National Basketball Association Player who concentrated on being a shooting guard, point guard and small forward. Born on July 18, 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee, he was brought up by his grandmother who supported him in playing basketball in their city. He continued to play basketball in Treadwell High School where his skills were recognized. He was awarded as the National High School Player of the Year by the Parade Magazine and had an incredible 3,039 points for his entire high school playing career. In college, he went to Memphis State University where he incessantly improved in terms of basketball skills. He was a runner up for the John R. Wooden Award and the Naismith College Player of the Year as a junior.
After his noteworthy career in college, he went pro in 1993 when he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors as a first round pick in the 1993 NBA Draft. However, he was traded to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Chris Webber who was a first overall pick. As a rookie, he showed great plays as a point guard and was readily awarded as an MVP in the Schick Rookie Game and was a finalist of the NBA Rookie of the Year. He emerged as one of the finest players in the league and received numerous awards for his superb guarding skills. He played for the Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Miami Heat. However, reviews say the many injuries he obtained affected his efficacy. He was released by the Miami Heat on December 12, 2007.
