About Pele Memorabilia & Collectibles
Edison Arantes do Nascimento, or Pelé to his fans around the world, is widely recognized as the greatest footballer ever to play the game. Known to many as “The King of Football, “King Pelé” or just “The King,” Pelé is also heralded as both a hero and national treasure in his native Brazil.
Pelé was 15 when he started playing for the Santos FC junior team. After only one season, he was brought up to the club’s senior team. In 1957, Pelé became the top scorer in the league and was called up to the Brazilian national team to play in the World Cup. Despite numerous offers from wealthy European clubs, Pelé continued to play soccer in Brazil until 1972.
Pelé came out of semi-retirement in 1974 to play for the New York Cosmos. Though past his prime at that point, Pelé’s stint on the team was a huge boost for American soccer and introduced many to the game. Pelé officially retired in 1977 following a scrimmage between the Cosmos and Santos, a game in which Pelé played one half as a member of each club.
Pelé is a member of the American National Soccer Hall of Fame, as well as being the all-time top scorer in the history of the Brazilian national team. He is also the only footballer to be a part of three World Cup-winning clubs. He was named “Athlete of the Century” by the International Olympic Committee in 1999 and is ranked as the greatest footballer of all time in a consensus of expert and media polls. In 2000, Pelé was recognized by FIFA as “Footballer of the Century.”
Own a piece of Pelé’s legacy with a signed jersey or autographed soccer ball. A signed 8x24 photo of Pelé’s signature bicycle kick would make a statement in any room and make an impressive gift for any soccer fan. A hand-signed Brazilian national team jersey is a key piece for any serious collection of authentic Pelé memorabilia.
