His baseball career debuted on April 6, 1973, when he broke into the big leagues at the age of 23 and played for the Milwaukee Brewers. In that season, he hit 15 home runs with 54 RBI and batted .245 with a meager .290 on-base percentage and a .395 slugging percentage.
A former Major League Baseball second baseman, Garcia also played for Detroit Tigers in 1976 and for Toronto Blue Jays in 1977.
