Paul Warfield is a former professional American football player. He was born in Warren, Ohio and took his college studies at the Ohio State University. Warfield played as wide receiver for two teams in the National Football League; the Cleveland Browns and the Miami Dolphins. Warfield is 6 ft. and 188 lbs. He began his career in the National Football League after he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns during the 1964 NFL Draft. He was a first round pick of the team in the draft.
Warfield played for the Browns from 1964 to 1969. An in 1970, in a controversial trade, while Warfield was still at his prime, Browns owner Art Modell dealt him to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for quarterback Mike Phipps. This seemed to be a faulty move by Cleveland as Phipps had a limited success for the Browns while Warfield became a major factor in the Dolphins' championships in the early 1970s. Sources say that soon before the Super Bowl VI, then U. S. President Richard Nixon phoned the Dolphins coach Don Shula to suggest that they run a particular pass play to Warfield.
Warfield made numerous achievements throughout his career in the NFL. To name a few were; being an eight time Pro Bowl selection, being six time All-Pro selection, becoming NFL champion with the Browns and two time NFL champion with the Dolphins. And in 1983, Warfield was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
