Paul Gaustad is a professional hockey player in the National Hockey League. He is currently the center for the Buffalo Sabres. He was born in Fargo, North Dakota. Gaustad played for the Portland Junior Hawks. He then decided to play in the BCJHL for a Burnaby, BC Tier II team.
During the 1999-2000 season, Gaustad signed with the Portland Winter Hawks in the Western Hockey League. He played for Portland for three seasons before moving on to play in the NFL. Gaustad was able to come up with 135 points. He earned 53, 82 and then 135 points for his first, second and third seasons.
Gaustad was selected by the Buffalo Sabres during the 2000 NHL Draft. He was the 220th overall pick in the draft. He was assigned to play for the Rochester affiliate of the Sabres in the AHL. He was able to play in 80 games and posted 53 points in total.
He was able to earn a starting position with the Sabres in 2005. After recuperating from a 2007 injury, Gaustad was able to play against the New York Rangers during a post-season game in May of that year. He was able to make 36 points by the end that season.
