A former Major League Baseball first baseman and right-handed batter,
Orlando Cepeda was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on September 17, 1973.
Cepeda was named to be Rookie of the Year during his first season. He batted .312 with home runs of 25 and 96 runs RBI and led in 38 doubles in the National League. After several years of playing the game, in 1967, he was then named to be the National League MVP. This event had recorded that hit .325 and drove 111 RBIs. In the same year, his team won the pennant and went on victorious in becoming the World Champions. In 17 seasons of playing in his career, Cepeda hit a .297 BA with 379 homers and 1365 RBI. He was the 7-time All Star player from the year, 1959-1964 and in 1967. He was elected by the Hall’s Veterans Committee in 1999. Cepeda is socially involved in the society. He was an honorary spokesperson for the Crohn’s and Colitis foundation of America.
He played formerly with the San Francisco Giants in 1958 and 1966. he also played almost 2 years with the St. Louis Cardinals from 1966 to 1968, with the Atlanta Braves for almost 3 years, from 1969-1972, Oakland Athletics in 1972, Boston Red Sox in 1973 and Kansas City Royals in 1974.
