About Normand Rochefort Memorabilia & Collectibles
Normand Rochefort is a retired Canadian ice hockey defense man who played for the Quebec Nordiques for eight seasons when he was drafted by the team in 1980. He was born on January 28, 1961 in Quebec City, Quebec, and is the nephew of Leon Rochefort, also a former NHL player. Though he was picked in the 24th round of the draft, Rochefort was thrilled to play for the Nords, especially because he was a French-native speaker. He showed his merit by going on to becoming an outstanding defense man for the team.
According to sources, he loved to play hockey which was why injuries didn’t stop him from getting on the ice at the beginning. He didn’t skate as gracefully as others, but his handling of the pucks made up for that. Those who followed him say he always had a way of “clearing his zone” and break forward. Rochefort was considered as one of the most feared physical players of his time, as he delivered brutal bodychecks, while receiving minimal penalties! Rochefort’s body shots were always remembered by those who were willing to accept them.
Serious knee injuries started to hinder on his career during the 1987-1988 season. He was only able to play 46 games. During this time, Rochefort also had troubles with the management of the Nords, and requested to be traded. The rest of his career was hampered by his knee injuries as he had to undergo reconstructive surgery in 1988-1989. His final appearances on the ice in the NHL were with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he only played 6 games.
When going to the games, make sure you wear favorite NHL jerseys! Some enthusiasts go out of there way to pick up NHL watches and jewelry for the collection. You might even want to pick up some NHL signed cards while you’re at the game! Have fun!
