Noah Paul Welch is currently a professional ice hockey player for the Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League. Born on August 26, 1982 in Brighton, Massachusetts, his current position is a defense man. He played hockey since high school while attending St. Sebastian School and served as captain for the Harvard University hockey team while in college.
Welch was selected 54th overall in the 2001 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins and made his first appearance in the NHL late in the 2005- 2006 season. This was in a game against the New York Islanders where he made his first point with an assist. He also played against his childhood favorite team, the Montreal Canadiens, the same year. He joined the 2007 AHL All- Star game as a representative of the Wilkes- Barre/ Scranton Penguins. He was traded to the Florida Panthers in 2007, then to the Tampa Bay Lightning in March 2009. He then signed a contract with the Atlanta Thrashers on July 2009. To date, Welch has played in 73 NHL regular season games, has scored 4 goals, 5 assists, 9 points, and 58 penalties.
