A professional ice hockey player positioned as center and at the same time as an alternate captain, Lars Nicklas Backstrom was born in Gavle, Sweden on November 23, 1987. He is currently playing under the National Hockey League for the Washington Capitals, a team based in the District of Columbia and a member of the Eastern Conference of NHL in Southeast Division.

A year after being picked, Backstrom had agreed on a contract with the Washington Capitals. The said contract is good for three years in NHL. Moreover, after his outstanding performances in the hockey league, Nicklas Backstrom had been honored as the recipient of the Viking Award. He is best known to be the only player of Swedish origin who got to play best in the 2008-09 seasons.
