A Major League Baseball player, Neifi Perez was born in Villa Mella, Dominican Republic on June 2, 1973
In 2000, Perez won the Gold Glove award at shortstop while playing for the Colorado Rockies. He signed to a minor- league contract by the Cubs in 2004. Unfortunately, in the 2005 season, Perez had the worst rate in the National League. He walked 3.1% of the time. Perez is a switch hitter and known for his bunting. He is said to be better from the right side of the plate and often attempted to bunt for base hits in his games. Perez ended the 2005 season with a below-average record. On November 8, 2005, he signed a 2-year contract with the Cubs. This contract was worth $2.5 million per season. But on August 20, he was traded for a minor league player to the Detroit Tigers. Perez was a member of the Detroit Tigers as of the month of September 2006.
His previous teams were the Colorado Rockies (1996-2001) and he also played partly in the year 2001 to 2002 for the Kansas City Royals. He spent almost a year playing for the San Francisco Giants in 2003-2004 and almost two years for the Chicago Cubs, from later part of 2004 to 2006. He was traded for Placido Polanco, the injured baseman of the Tigers on August 20, 2006.
