A former Major League Baseball outfielder, Mookie Wilson was born in Bamberg, South Carolina on February 9, 1956.
He played formerly with the New York Mets in 1980 to 1989 and Toronto Blue Jays from 1989-1991. He is known because of his impressive speed and positive attitude. Wilson had gathered numerous fans because of his personality. He was also known of the frequent chant “Mooooooooo-kie”. This chant was a sign of appreciation to him by his fans. He started his baseball career in college wherein he played at the University of South Carolina as a college baseball player. Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in New York from Mercy College.
He had a record of career stolen bases of 281 and 62 career triples in the twelve seasons of his career. This record is what Wilson holds on with the Mets in his football career. In the Game 6 of 1986 World Series, being a batter, he avoided being hit by a wild pitch and that event had tied up run a score in the 10th bottom. In 1996, he was inducted into the New York Mets hall of Fame. Wilson continuously lives in his baseball career. He coached the New York Mets from 1997 to 2002 and he was the one who managed the Rookie League Kingsport Mets team previously.
