Monty Williams is a former American pro basketball athlete and is currently the head coach of the New Orleans Hornets in the National Basketball Association. He was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia and took his college education at the University of Notre Dame where he was also notable for playing college basketball. Despite of a pre-existing heart condition, as sources say, Williams began his pro basketball career when he was drafted by the New York Knicks during the 1994 NBA Draft where he was a first round and twenty fourth overall pick of the team.
Williams played for two years for the Knicks before he joined the San Antonio Spurs in 1996 up to 1998. During his stint with the Spurs, Williams got a career high of thirty points in their game against the Denver Nuggets on April 1997. Williams was then acquired by the Nuggets before the start of the 1998 seasons. Williams spent the following 2009 season with the Nuggets before joining the Orlando Magic until 2002. Before his retirement, Williams joined the Philadelphia 76ers and had his last season in 2003.
Two years after retiring from his playing career, Williams was hired Nate McMillan in 2005 as assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers. But on June 2010, Williams was offered a three-year contract to be the head coach of the Hornets.

Monty Williams (full name: Tavares Montgomery Williams; Monty) played Forward from 1995 until 2003 for the New York Knickerbockers, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers. Over 9 seasons, he played 456 games, scored 2884 points (6.3 ppg) and grabbed 1296 rebounds (2.8 rpg). Williams also dished out 544 assists (1.2 apg), made 251 steals (0.6 spg), and blocked 137 shots (0.3 bpg) during his career. Born in Fredericksburg, Virginia on October 8, 1971, Williams stands 6-8 and weighs 225 lbs. He attended high school at Potomac in Oxon Hill, Maryland and college at University of Notre Dame. He was drafted by the New York Knickerbockers in the 1st round (24th pick, 24th overall) of the 1994 NBA draft.
