Michael Sherman Wallace is a retired left- handed Major League Baseball pitcher. He was born on February 3, 1951 in Gastonia, North Carolina. He attended Madison for his high school studies then studied college in Virginia Commonwealth University.
Wallace was drafted in the 4th round of the 1969 MLB amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He formally signed with the Phillies on June 23, 1969. His first game for the team was on June 27, 1973 against the New York Mets. The Phillies won the game in a 6-7 scoring. By May 3, 1974, Wallace was traded off to the New York Yankees for Ken Wright. More than a year later, he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals where he stayed until October 1976. The Cardinals then traded Wallace to the Texas Rangers for John Sutton. His last game was on May 1, 1977 in a game against the Chicago White Sox after which he announced that he will be retiring. Wallace left an 11- 3 win- loss record. He had a total of 105 strikeouts and a 3.91 earned run average.
