About Mike Sweeney Memorabilia & CollectiblesA first baseman/designated hitter in Major League Baseball, Mike Sweeney was born in Orange, California on July 22, 1973.
He played his entire career to only one team and that is the Kansas City Royals. On September 14, 1985, he made his major league debut. In 1999, his big break came when the Royals tried unsuccessfully to trade him during spring training. The team then started to use him as their regular designated hitter. They gave the first job to rookie to Sweeney, after the team offered it to Jeremy Giambi who showed reluctance to the job. He led the team to 22 home runs and 102 RBI and a .322 batting average. He hit 25 consecutive games from July 18 to August 13, 1999. He collected 42 hits total in these games.
