 James Michael Hegan is a retired professional baseball player who became a radio broadcaster for the Major Baseball League team, Cleveland Indians. He was born on July 21, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio and is the son of Jim Hegan, a Cleveland Indians catcher. He finished his high school education at Saint Ignatius High School and made his way to the major league in 1964 with the New York Yankees. He also played for the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and made his first career home run with the team. He joined the Milwaukee Brewers from 1970 to 1971 and 1974 to 1977. He played as a first baseman and outfielder and was the only All-Star member of the Seattle Pilots. From 1971 to 1973, he played for the Oakland Athletics with which he played in the 1972 World Championships. He played mainly as a pinch hitter and part of the team’s defense in substitute for Mike Epstein and was the last batter who made a fly out to the center field of the Yankee Stadium. He made a hit for a cycle on September 30, 1976 and was an American League record holder for most error-free performances in consecutive games. This record was surpassed by Kevin Youkilis in 2007.

 

After his final game on July 8, 1977 for the Milwaukee Brewers, he went into radio broadcasting and became a color commentator for the Milwaukee Brewers. He worked with Tom Hamilton in various radio broadcasts.
