Mike Harkey is a retired starting pitcher for the Major League Baseball. Harkey was an active player FROM(1988 to 1997. Presently, the New York Yankees has hired Harkey as their bullpen coach. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Harkey decided to enter California State University in Fullerton. While playing college baseball, Harkey was able to impress a number of teams and became a first round pick. He became eligible to )JOIN the 1987 MLB Draft and was selected by the Chicago Cubs.
Harkey first appeared in the MLB in 1988 for the Cubs. During his rookie year, Harkey was able to post a 2.60 ERA. During his second season in the MLB, Harkey was able to appear in more games. Harkey was able to come up with a 12-6 record and a 3.26 ERA. His batting average also improved significantly registering a .250.
Statistically, Harkey’s best season came in 1992 when he was able to pitch and win a total of four games with a 1.89 ERA. Aside from the Cubs, Harkey also played for the Colorado Rockies, the Oakland Athletics, the California Angels and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Harkey announced his retirement after the 1997.
Before working for the Yankees, Harkey was the pitching coach for the Iowa Cubs.
