 Michael Robert "Mike" Fratello was born in February 24, 1947 at Hackensack, New Jersey. He is a color analyst and previously a professional basketball coach. He coached teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA. He is an Italian-American and attended the Hackensack High School. He was a captain in various sports teams specifically in basketball, baseball, football and field hockey. During the senior year, he was a center for Bergen "All County" Football team. His college days were spent at Montclair State College in Montclair, New Jersey where he also played football, but he did not forget Hackensack High School and returned to work there as an assistant for both basketball and football teams. Then he became a graduate assistant at the University of Rhode Island and was under the supervision of Tom Carmody, while also doing a coaching job for the U.R.I. freshman basketball team. At James Madison University, he was a college ball assistant and worked together with Lou Campanelli. It was also memorable for him to work as an NBA assistant coach for the team Atlanta Hawks.

The Memphis Grizzlies were also head coached by Fratello starting December 2004 to December 2006. Throughout his coaching career, though he had never won an NBA championship, a lot of people respected him as one of the astounding coaches and great basketball minds of the time.
