 Currently playing for the Chicago Cubs, Mike Fontenot is a Major League Baseball player who plays as an infielder. Fontenot attended the Salmen High School in Slidell, Louisiana. During his senior year, he became eligible to join the 1999 MLB Amateur Entry Draft. He was picked by the Tampa Ray Devils during the 21st round of the draft. Instead of going professional, he decided to attend Louisiana State University.

 

While in college, he was named as the National Freshman of the Year after posting a batting average of .353, 17 home runs, 93 runs and 8 steals. He was named into the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional all-tournament team and then into the College World Series all-tournament team. The LSU Tigers were able to reach the 2000 College World Series with great help from Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot.

 

Fontenot made his professional debut in the MLB while playing for the Chicago Cubs. He shares second baseman duties with Jeff Baker. He hit his first home run in May 2010 in a game against the Cincinnati Reds.

 

Mike Fontenot was named as the Baltimore Orioles Minor League Player of the Year and into the Eastern League All-Star 2B in 2003.
