Picked from the 2007 National Hockey League’s Entry Draft, Mikael Backlund played for the Calgary Flames since 2008 up to the present. He hails from the third largest country in the European Union, Sweden and was born on March 17, 1989.

 

At an early age, Mickael Backlund has already been seen with great potential in the hockey society. He started his career as an amateur hockey payer with the VIK Vasteras HK. The said team is considered as the second highest group in Sweden. It was founded in 1913 and later in 2005 had its name changed to Vasteras IK Ungdom. Among its well-known hockey players is Patrick Berglund playing centre, Peter Popovic playing defenceman and Tommy Salo as a goaltender.

 

Mickael Backlund had several contributions to the Swedish hockey league. He had been seen performing at its best in most of his games. This remarkable stat of his was rewarded with a number of awards as well. To name a few, he got the best forward title and the most valuable player award from one of the most major Swedish awarding body, the Sven Tumba. He had his big break with the Calgary Flames in 2007 as he played with the team against the New York Islanders. Later on, he was also asked to be leading the group against the Kelowna Rockets which thereafter got him into the row of Canadian Hockey League’s Player of the Week.
