An American baseball player, Mickey Mantle was born in Spavinaw, Oklahoma, U.S.A on October 20, 1931.
He was named from the Hall of Fame catcher, Mickey Cochrane from the Philadelphia Athletics. His father was an amateur player. He was an all- around athlete that played basketball and football in his high school years. He was enrolled in Commerce High School. Mantle was then offered a football scholarship by the University of Oklahoma. In the minor leagues, Mantle played shortstop. He played for the Baxter Springs as his first team in his semi-professional team. He had one of the greatest steals in baseball history leading to the recognition of Mickey Mantle autographed baseball. In 1949, after his graduation day in high school, he signed the minor-league contract with the Yankees Class D team. His contract was worth $400 if he played the remainder of the season and $ 1,100 with the signing bonus. This happened during his arrival at the Yankees on April 17, 1951.
He replaced Joe DiMaggio to center field in 1952. He was named to be the top professional athlete of the year in 1956 by winning the Hickok Belt. In the same year, he won the Triple Crown. Thus, it made the Mickey Mantle autographed baseball a valuable item to collect. On September 10, 1960, in Major League history Mantle hit some of the longest home runs. He won the American League Triple Crown twice but still remains the last man to win the Major League Triple Crown.
