 Michel Hernandez is a Major Baseball League player who was born on August 12, 1978 in La Habana, Cuba. He started playing in the professional baseball scene in 1998 as a Yankee. The New York Yankees made a deal with him as an undrafted free agent and stayed as part of the team from 1998 to 2003. He was first included in the 40-man roster of the Yankees and later on was called up to play in the Major Baseball League. His first MLB game was on September 6, 2003 as Jorge Posada’s defensive replacement. He had his very first major league hit on September 26 and appeared in 5 games in the 2003 season.

 

 

Hernandez joined the Boston Red Sox on January 8, 2004 and was again claimed off the waivers by another MLB team, the Philadelphia Phillies. He spent the whole 2004 season with the Triple-A team of the Phillies, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons and played alternately with A. J. Hinch.

 

 

After his period with the Phillies, he signed with the San Diego Padres in 2005 and appeared in 19 games in the team’s spring training. With the St. Louis Cardinals who signed him on November 2005, he played for the Triple-A team again and continued to spend his 2006 season in the minor league. He also signed for minor league with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being signed by the Baltimore Orioles in 2009.
