Michal Rozsival is a professional ice hockey defense man for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League. He is from Vlašim, Czechoslovakia and was born on September 3, 1978.
Rozsival started his professional career when he was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 4th round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft as the 105th overall pick. To prepare himself in the North American style of ice hockey, he joined the Swift Current Broncos of junior hockey. He also had a stint with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. His first NHL season was during the 1999- 2000 season with Pittsburgh. Upon entering free agency, he signed with the New York Rangers after the NHL lockout in the 2004- 2005 season. He also played for the Czech Republic team in the 2008 IIHF World Championship where they ended in the 5th spot. One of his remarkable games was the one against the Buffalo Sabres in the Rangers’ longest home playoff game since 1971. To date, Rozsival played in 637 regular season games, with 57 goals, 169 assists, and 226 points. He appeared in 33 playoff games, with 4 goals, 10 assists, and 14 points.
