About Michael Vick Memorabilia & Collectibles
Michael Vick is an American football quarterback playing for the Philadelphia Eagles and is noted for being the first African- American to be drafted first overall for the National Football League Draft.
He played in Virginia Tech for college football where he placed third in the Heisman Trophy balloting during his freshman year. He left the college on his second year to join the Atlanta Falcons in the 2001 NFL Draft where he stayed for six seasons. Third among quarterbacks in career rushing yards, Vicks was a prominent figure in the football field and with his good performance led the Falcons twice to the playoffs.
As a child, Vick was taught the basics by his father and later on cultivated his fondness of football with his cousin. His talent in the sport made his parents and coaches watch him with a special eye. He was quoted saying that the sport kept him from the street thus avoiding the problems other kids his age were into. Both during high school and college, Vick showed his football prowess that led him to being drafted in 2001.
During his early times in the league, Vick was first in rushing yards per games among the quarterbacks and holds several NFL quarterback rushing records, such as most rushing yards in a game, most rushing yards in a single season, among others. He also became spokesperson for several companies during these times in his career.
Vick was involved in an illegal interstate dogfight in April 2007 where he pled guilty for felony charges. He got suspended from the Falcons and served a 21month jail time, including a two- month home confinement. He filed for bankruptcy in July 2008.
