Michael Jordan Buying Guide

Michael Jordan is the ultimate sports figure; a man who embodied yet transcended his craft to change the game of basketball forever. Jordan is the without a doubt, the consensus for the greatest basketball player who has ever lived. Before embarking on a historic NBA career, "MJ" played three years of college basketball at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill under legendary coach Dean Smith. Jordan helped the Tar Heels to win the 1982 National Championship and was named the NCAA Player of the Year in both 1983 and 1984. He went on to be selected third overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984 NBA Draft and within weeks was among the NBA's brightest stars. In his rookie season, Michael Jordan was often cheered at opposing arenas for his show stopping moves and never-before-seen agility. Basketball fans voted Jordan to start in his first All-Star Game that season, much to the annoyance of veterans who were jealous of Jordan's quick success. Later that season, he went on to win the 1985 Rookie of the Year Award. It didn't take long for Jordan to start recording record performances on the hardwood. During his second season, Jordan racked up a still-standing NBA record for most points in a playoff game as he scored 63 points against the Boston Celtics, a team considered amongst the greatest teams of all-time. Michael Jordan would go on to win his first of five NBA MVP awards in 1988, but his second MVP title in 1991 was more meaningful since it reflected his first NBA Championship with the Bulls. The Chicago Bulls defeated their archrival, the Detroit Pistons, in the Eastern Conference Finals and beat the Los Angeles Lakers four games to one for the title. Due to his contributions to the Bulls victory, Jordan was unanimously voted the 1991 NBA Finals MVP. Little did the world know, Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were only entering the first step towards a decade of pure domination of the NBA. Continuing to crush the competition, Jordan and the Bulls went on to win the next two NBA championships in 1992 and 1993, and MJ became the first player in league history to win three consecutive NBA Finals MVP awards. Following the murder of his father James R. Jordan Sr., Michael Jordan retired from the NBA for the first time in 1993. After a short and unsuccessful stint playing Major League Baseball, Michael Jordan returned to the court on March 19, 1995 and led the Bulls to the playoffs that season. With Jordan recommitted strictly to basketball, the Chicago Bulls returned to the top of the league and completed their second three-peat championship run of the decade. With one of the most-replayed shots ever taken, Jordan crossed-over Utah defender Bryon Russell and hit the series-winning shot with under 10 seconds remaining in Game Six of the 1998 NBA Finals. Jordan collected his sixth NBA Finals MVP award to coincide with his sixth NBA Championship and mark the end of a basketball era as he retired from basketball for a second time. After returning the NBA one last time as a member of the Washington Wizards for two seasons, Michael Jordan played his very last game on April 16, 2003 and was later enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. He has again brought his talent to the hard wood court, but as the owner of the Charlotte Hornets
