Michael Jerome Irvin is a retired National Football League player who was born on March 5, 1966. Nicknamed himself as “The Playmaker”, he spent his college football career in University of Miami after graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. In college, he was bale to set a number of school records for his great performances. He established a record for most number of career receptions with 143, and for his 2, 423 receiving yards. He played for the 1987 National Championship Team of the university and has helped the school reach the Orange Bowl Championship game.
He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys as an 11th pick in the 1988 NFL Draft. He played in the NFC Championship Game for four times and was part of the Super Bowl XXVII and the Super Bowl XXVIII as well as in the Super Bowl XXX. However, after an injury in the Philadelphia field in the 1999 season which prompted his retirement.
He ended his career with 65 touchdowns, 750 reception and 11, 904 yards. He was inducted to the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor in 2005 and was also part of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. He was inducted to the Professional Football Hall of Fame on August 4, 2007 and delivered a touching speech about his football life.
After his football career, he worked as broadcaster for ESPN and as an actor.
