Merton Edward Hanks was born in Dallas, Texas on March 12, 1968. He is a former National Football League player who played mainly as a safety. He is a graduate of Lake Highlands High School where he was known as a track and field star. He moved to University of Iowa for college and played college football at the said university. There, he earned All-Big Ten recognition as a cornerback. According to reviews, he was not quite impressive during the 1991 NFL draft with only 40 yards dash.
He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers only at round five of the said draft. Notwithstanding his poor draft performance, he emerged as an All-Pro selection for five times and was famous for his tremendous returns and interceptions. He was also eminent for his inimitable celebrations and was part of the San Francisco team that seized the Super Bowl XXIX championship. Hanks also played for the Seattle Seahawks. His final season in the National Football League was in 1999. He finished with a career record of 33 interceptions, 410 interception yards and 3 touchdowns. Currently, he manages the operations of the NFL and is an assistant director of the league.
