About Mel Renfro Memorabilia & Collectibles

Mel Renfro is a retired professional football player who played as a defensive back for the Dallas Cowboys. Hailing from Houston, Texas, he attended Jefferson High School and played college football at University of Oregon. Aside from football, he also played track and field at the said university.

 

His professional football career began when he was drafted to play in the National Football League by his career-long team, the Dallas Cowboys. He was assigned as the team’s safety at the beginning of his career and was soon designated as a cornerback. His speed became his great asset and he was regarded as a threat by some NFL players. He recorded the highest number of interceptions in the league with 10 in the 1969 season and was included in the Pro Bowl team in ten seasons of his career. He was named to the All-Pro team five times, the first being in 1964. He had total of fourteen years in the NFL and made 52 passes with 3 touchdowns. He logged 109 returned punts and made 13 fumble recoveries. Renfro also appeared in the Super Bowl VI and in Super Bowl X. In 1996, he was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame for his major contributions for his NFL team.

Mel Renfro (fullname: Melvin Lacy Renfro; no nicknames) played Defensive Back from 1964 until 1977 for the Dallas Cowboys. He played 174 games, intercepted 52 passes and recovered 13 fumbles. Born in Houston, TX on December 30, 1941, Renfro stands 6'0 and weighs 190 lbs. He attended college at Oregon. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 10th round (79th overall) of the 1964 AFL Draft. Renfro was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996, finalist in 1993, 1994, 1995.
