Matthew Richard Wieters was born on May 21, 1986 in Goose Creek, South Carolina. He is a professional baseball player at the Major League Baseball. He is currently playing for the Baltimore Orioles as a catcher. Matt was drafted as the 5th overall in the 2007 MLB Draft.

 

He played high school baseball at Stratford High School in Goose Creek, South Carolina under Coach John Chalus. He led the Knights to AAAA state championship series. Matt went to Georgia Tech and played college baseball and became one of the only three players to earn All-America honors for two occasions. Wieter was also named as first-team All-America and first-team, All-Atlantic Coast Conference in 2007 and the ACC Rookie of the Year.

 

He signed with the Baltimore Orioles with the contract of $6 million signing bonus on August 15, 2007. During the winter, Matt played for the Honolulu Sharks averaging .283 in 31 games with one home run, 17 runs batted in, nine doubles, one triple, 44 total bases, and 12 walks. He made his Major League Debut on May 29, 2009 with the Baltimore Orioles.
