Matthew R. Roth is from Villa Park, Illinois and currently plays as a linebacker for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League. He attended Willowbrook High School and played football as well a wresting there. He played for the Iowa Hawkeyes of the University of Iowa. During college, he was named to First Team All- Big Ten selection twice and an All- America selection during his senior year.
Roth was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 2nd round of the 2005 NFL Entry Draft as 46th overall pick. He became the starting defensive end in 2007 when Kevin Carter was traded off to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. When the Dolphins shifted to a different defense, he was moved to outside linebacker in 2008. In 2009, he was involved in a controversy when the Dolphins’ head coach said that Roth failed the team’s initial conditioning exam because of an unknown illness. According to Roth’s agent, the cause was Roth’s groin injury. Roth was then placed on reserved list and was released November 2009. Shortly, he then signed with the Cleveland Browns.
