Listed as No. 17 in the Ring Magazine’s greatest fighters in the past 80 years, Marvin Hagler is a retired professional boxer. He was named as the undisputed world middleweight champion in the 1980s. Hagler has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Hagler grew up in Newark, New Jersey but then he moved to Brockton, Massachusetts with his mother. He started training in the Petronelli brothers’ gym in the area.
During the early periods of his career, Hagler lost to Willie Monroe and Bobby Watts. However, he was able to beat the boxers in respective rematches and not only walked away with the title but he also caught the eye of famous promoter Bob Arum.
He was able to win the World Middleweight Champion title after he beat Alan Minter by a TKO in the third round of their London fight. Hagler also beat Fulgencio Obelmijias who would become a world champion.
Other popular fights that Hagler took part in were against Roberto Duran who he beat after a unanimous decision, against Juan Roldan who he beat after ten rounds, against Thomas Hearns which he beat with a third round knockout, and against Mugabi who was an Olympic silver medalist from Uganda.
