A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Marvin Barnes is a retired professional basketball player. He was part of the Spirits of St. Louis of the American Basketball Association (ABA). Marvin Barnes (full name: Marvin Jerome Barnes; Bad News, The Magnificent) played Forward-Center from 1975 until 1980 for the Spirits of St. Louis, Detroit Pistons, Buffalo Braves, Boston Celtics and San Diego Clippers. Over 6 seasons, he played 315 games, scored 5034 points (16.0 ppg) and grabbed 2873 rebounds (9.1 rpg). Barnes also dished out 651 assists (2.1 apg), made 365 steals (1.2 spg), and blocked 438 shots (1.4 bpg) during his career. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on July 27, 1952, Barnes stands 6-8 and weighs 210 lbs. He attended high school at Central in Providence, Rhode Island and college at Providence College. He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1st round (2nd pick, 2nd overall) of the 1974 NBA draft.
