 Marvin Hubbard, known as Marv Hubbard, is a former professional football athlete born on May 7, 1946 in Salamanca, New York. A graduate of Colgate University in New York, he appeared in the Atlantic Coast Football League as a player for the Hartford Knights. After playing in the said league, he went to play for the Oakland Raiders of the American Football League in 1969 and stayed with the team until 1975.

 

He was drafted in the 1968 AFL Draft but was cut and joined the Canadian Football League afterwards. While in the league, Hubbard mastered his blocking skills and then went to play for the Oakland Raiders. He was named to the AFC All-Star team in 1971 to 1973. Unluckily, he had an injury which he caught because of his forceful style and caused him to miss the entire 1975 season. He joined the Detroit Lions in 1977 with which he retired with not long after.

 

Hubbard played as a fullback and was known as a headlong crasher into the opponents, without thinking of his own sake. Although he did not play in the limelight, he posted impressive statistics in his entire playing career. With his jersey no. 44, he recorded a very high per carry average of 5 per yards per carry. According to reviews, this was possible through Hubbard’s skills complemented with good offensive lines he had at his back. Among them are Art Shell, Bob Brown, Jim Otto and Gene Upshaw.
