About Marty Marion:
Marty Marion (full name: Martin Whiteford Marion; Slats and The Octopus) played shortstop from 1940 until 1953 for the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Browns. He played for the Cardinals from 1940 - 1950 and Browns from 1952 - 1953. Over 13 seasons, he played 1572 games, hit 36 home runs, drove in 602 runs, and stole 35 bases. Born on December 1, 1917 in Richburg, SC, Marion stands 6' 2" and weighs 170 lb. He attended Tech (Atlanta, GA) high school. His debut was on April 16, 1940 and he played his final game on July 6, 1953. Over his career, Marion made $15,000.
