A former World No.1 woman tennis player, Martina Navratilova was born in Revnice, Czech Republic on October 18, 1956.
At the age of 15, Navratilova started his victories in tennis championships. In 1972, she won the Czech Republic national tennis championship. She was then turned to be a professional player at the age of 16. In 1974 at the Orlando, Florida, she won her first professional singles title. Her first Grand Slam singles title was won in 1978 at the Wimbledon. This game defeated Evert and she had captured for the first time the World No.1 ranking. In the same year, she won her third Grand Slam singles title. She holds simultaneously all the four Grand Slams single and won the 1984 French Open. This victory was asserted as a “Grand Slam.”
All of the 1984 four Grand Slam women’s doubles titles were won by Navratilova. She reached the women’s singles finals in three years (1985-1987) at all the held 11 Grand Slam tournaments. In 1990, it was said to be Navratilova’s final Grand Slam singles triumph. In the 2000 Tennis Hall of Fame, she was also inducted. In 2003 at the Australian Open and the Wimbledon, she was partnered with Leander Paes and both won the mixed doubles. She was the only tennis player in the history of Australian Open victory to complete a “boxed set.”
