Mark Andre West was born on November 5, 1960 in Petersburg, Virginia. A 6’10 center from Old Dominion University. During the 1983 NBA Draft, he was selected as the 30th pick in the second round by the Dallas Mavericks. He’s been around the league for 17 seasons with the Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons, and Phoenix Suns. As a member of the 1993 Suns rooster he was a key player in which they’ve faced the Mighty Chicago Bulls in the finals.
Before entering the NBA, he played college games at the Old Dominion University, where he compiled 1,113 rebounds, 1,038 points, and shot 56 percent from the field. He was named the Most Valuable Player in the ECAC-South Tournament the year 1980 and 1982.
His jersey was retired in 1984 at Old Dominion University. He was inducted at the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 1988 and Virginia Sports Hall of Fame on April 22, 2006. West was honored in 2000 as a distinguish alumni.

He was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2nd round (6th pick, 30th overall) of the 1983 NBA draft.
