About Mark Wagner Memorabilia & Collectibles


Mark Nathan Wagner is a professional baseball catcher for the Boston Red Sox who was born in Lakewood, California. He batted and threw right, stands 6 feet and an inch, and weighs 205 pounds.

He graduated from Mayfair High School in California. He was a four-year varsity letter winner and All-CIF honoree and also earned MVP honors as a freshman and won the Suburban League Championship as a senior in 2002.

 

Mark Wagner was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 29th round in the first-Year Player Draft in 2002 but did not sign a contract. He attended the University of California-Irvine earning All-Big west Conference 2nd team honors and was named his team’s MVP in 2005. He spent his whole career in the minor leagues and was drafted on the 9th round in 2005.

 

While he was in the Eastern League, he played for the Portland Sea Dogs in 2008. Wagner was also added to the 40-man roster of the Red Sox on November 20, 2008. A year later, he finally participated in the Red Sox Rookie Program. He was promoted from Double-A Portland to triple-A Pawtucket.

Being a good defensive catcher with a sturdy frame and excellent at throwing runners out, he was awarded with the ML Offensive Player of the Month on May of 2006 by the Red Sox. On the same year, he was South Atlantic League All-Star. By 2007, Wagner was the Red Sox Minor League Defensive player of the month and California League player of the week (Aug. 13-19). In two consecutive years (2007 and 2008), he was SoxProspects.com All-Star catcher.

Mark Wagner (full name: Mark Duane Wagner; no nicknames) played shortstop, second baseman and third baseman from 1976 until 1984 for the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics. He played for the Tigers from 1976 - 1980, Rangers from 1981 - 1983 and Athletics in 1984. Over 9 seasons, he played 414 games, hit 3 home runs, drove in 81 runs, and stole 8 bases. Born on March 4, 1954 in Conneaut, OH, Wagner stands 6' 0" and weighs 165 lb. He attended Harbor (Ashtabula, OH) high school and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 19th round of the 1972 amateur draft. His debut was on August 20, 1976 and he played his final game on September 30, 1984. Common misspellings of his name include Mark Duane mac manny Mark waggoner Wagner wagoner.
