He started playing basketball in Cherry Cheek High School where he first showcased a lot of potential to be a professional basketball player, After he finished his high school education at the said school, he moved up to the University of Kansas where he also played basketball. As part of the Jayhawks, he was instrumental for the team to reach the National Championship Game in the 1991 season.
