Born on January 12, 1979 in Czechoslovakia, Marian Hossa is a National Hockey League player who is part of the Chicago Blackhawks at present. The Ottawa Senators drafted him during the 1997 NHL Entry Draft as a 12th overall pick. However, after being drafted, he spent one season in the Western Hockey League playing for the Portland Winter Hawks. In 1998, he was able to win the Memorial Cup with the team. Hossa also played for the World Junior Championships twice and in the Winter Olympics for three times. A known international player, he represented his country in seven World Championships and played in the World Cup once. In the junior league, he had 45 goals and made 85 points in 53 games he appeared in and was given the Jim Peggot Memorial Trophy which is given to the World Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player of the Year.
Among the teams he played for are the Atlanta Thrashers, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the HC Dukla Trencin of the Slovak Extralgia. Hossa is a left shooter who plays in both left and right wings and is listed at 6 ft. 2 in. and weighs 210 lbs. He was included in the NHL All-Star Games for four times and has played for the Stanley Cup Finals for three consecutive times. He won the Stanley Cup championship in the 2009-2010 for the Chicago Blackhawks.
