Marian Gaborik is a professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League. He is currently the right winger for the New York Rangers. He was born in Trencin, Czechoslovakia and is Slovakian in nationality.
Before getting into the NHL, Gaborik played for the HC Dukla Trencin in the Slovakia Extraliga for two seasons. He started out playing for the franchise’s junior team and was able to make 59 points and appeared in 36 games during the 1997 season. He was called to the franchise’s men team during the same season where he started his professional career.
In 2000, he was selected by the Minnesota Wild during the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He was the third overall pick. During his rookie year in the NHL, he was able to make 18 goals and 36 points. In the 2001 season, Gaborik was able to post 30 goals and was able to make 67 points. Gaborik was selected for his first NHL All-Star Game.
After holding out in 2003 and an NHL lockout in 2004, Gaborik resumed play in 2005. It would be in 2007 when he would score five goals in a game against the New York Rangers. He was named to NHL All-Star Game in 2008 and became the team captain for the Wild in that season. Gaborik signed with the New York Rangers in 2009.
