Marcus William Giles was born on May 18, 1978 in San Diego, California. Known simply as Marcus Giles, he was drafted to Major League Baseball on April 17, 2001 for the team Atlanta Bravesin round 53 of 1996 Major League  Baseball draft. A right-handed batter, he played as second base.  

 

According to reviews, he formally began in 2003 and impressed the public that he was selected to join the All-Star Game that year. He finished the said season with 49 doubles, a record breaking number for the Atlanta Braves. In 2004, he suffered a lot of injuries and missed 52 games. In 2005, he was able to contribute much for the Atlanta Braves when he doubled 45 times and scored 104 runs and a 16 for 19 stolen bases. He was moved to a lead-off position when Rafael Furcal, a shortstop, left the team in late 2005. That year, he recorded his lowest batting average with only .262. He had various medical problems in 2006 but was able to play again for team New York after being diagnosed of acid reflux, which is not a serious condition. He signed a one year contract in 2007 for the team San Diego Padres but then settled fro a minor league deal with the team Colorado Rockies. He likewise signed minor league contracts with Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies but was released by both teams.
