Mark Wells is a retired American pro ice hockey athlete who played as center for the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League. Standing 5 ft. and 11 in., Wells also played for other teams in the minor hockey leagues such as the New Haven Nighthawks of the American Hockey League, the Flint Generals of the International Hockey League, and the Fort Wayne Komets and Oklahoma City Stars of the Central Hockey League.
Wells was born on September 18, 1957 on St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Before making it to the National Hockey League, Wells first started playing in the amateur league playing for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association for the Bowling Green State University from 1975-1979 where he was a star forward.
Wells also became part of the 1980 Olympic team on a full time basis in 1979 after his college career had ended. Wells was drafted the 1977 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. Wells then joined Montreal's top farm team the Nova Scotia before he was released after the 1980 season and then signed to a free agent contract by the New York Rangers. After his retirement from pro hockey, Wells worked as a restaurant manager in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
