Marc-Andre Fleury is the current goaltender for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League. He was playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League when he decided to join the 2003 NHL Entry Draft instead. While playing for the major junior, Fleury was able to win the Mike Bossy Trophy and the Telus Cup in 2003.
He was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins and was the first pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. His first NHL game was against the Los Angeles Kings. He was able to make 46 saves including a save on a penalty shot. He was able to win the Rookie of the Month award in October of the 2003-04 season. In the 2006-07 season, the Penguins was able to make it to the NHL playoffs, Fleury’s first. However, the team would be eliminated by the eventual winners, the Ottawa Senators.
In the 2009 season, Fleury would finally be able to take the Stanley Cup while playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Fleury competed with Team Canada during the 2003 and 2004 World Junior Championships where the country was able to take the silver medal on those two instances and the gold medal during the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
