About Luke Appling:
Luke Appling (full name: Lucius Benjamin Appling; Old Aches and Pains and Luscious Luke) played shortstop and third baseman from 1931 until 1950 for the Chicago White Sox. He played for the White Sox from 1931 - 1950. Over 20 seasons, he played 2422 games, hit 45 home runs, drove in 1319 runs, and stole 179 bases. Born on April 2, 1907 in High Point, NC, Appling stood 5' 10" and weighed 183 lb. He attended Fulton (Atlanta, GA) high school. His debut was on September 10, 1930 and he played his final game on October 1, 1950. Over his career, Appling made $25,000. Common misspellings of his name include Old Aches and Pains Lucius Luscious Benjamin Luke Appling.
