Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame inductee Lou Graham is professional golfer. The peak of his career was during the 1970’s when he was able to win the most competitions. Graham has had a lot of practice; he has been playing golf since the age of seven. He decided to enter Memphis State University and played golf for three years while in college.
Graham decided to enlist in the U.S. Army and became part of the ceremonial Honor Guards. Honor Guards are responsible for guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He also played for the Army golf team and even managed to win the 1961 Inter-Service Championship.
He went professional in 1964 when he first entered the PGA Tour but he only got to win his first event during the Minnesota Golf Classic in 1967. His second win came in 1972 after he was able to emerge victorious during the Liggett Myers Open. Graham’s third win would be his first major championship win as well. In 1975, Graham was able to clinch the U.S. Open title. He went toe-to-toe with John Mahaffey. During the 1977 U.S. Open, he was able to come in second after he was beaten by Hubert Green with just one stroke.
