Leroy Wheat is a former American pro baseball player. He was born in Edwardsville, Illinois and took his college education when he attended the Truman State University in Missouri. He batted and threw right handed. As a pro baseball player, Wheat pitched for a few teams in the Major League Baseball for the Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies and the Kansas City Athletics.
He began his professional baseball career after he was originally signed in 1948 by the Cleveland Indians as amateur free agent. Wheat made his debut on April 21, 1954. On February 19, 1954, Wheat was traded to the Philadelphia Athletics along with Bill Upton in exchange for Dave Philley and had his final game with the team on April 23, 1955.
Leroy Wheat was not only a big MLB athlete but an accomplished academe as well. After his baseball career, Wheat completed his Masters Degree and became a teacher of physical education and baseball coach and became Athletic Director at Broward Community College. Also after his baseball career, Lee had attended to several gatherings and was loved by fellow players and fans alike. Leroy Wheat passed away at the age of 78 on July 29, 2008 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
