Kevin Darwin Greene is a retired professional football player who played as a linebacker in the National Football League. He played high school football at Granite City South High as a starter and became an honorable mention selection for the All-Conference. He was born on July 31, 1962 in Schenectady, New York and wore jersey number 9.
He continued playing football in college when he entered Auburn University. He was a recipient of the Zeke Smith Defensive Player of the Year award and played in the Southeastern Conference. In his senior year as the university’s football star, he made 11 sacks and 69 tackles.
His National Football League career began in 1985 when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in round five of the 1985 NFL Draft. Other teams he played for include the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1993 to 1995, the Carolina Panthers in 1996 and in 1997, and the San Francisco 49ers.
Among his achievements and awards were the 1996 UPI NFC Defensive Player of the Year, 1996 and 1998 NFLPA NFC Linebacker of the Year, and as a three-time first team All-Pro selection in 1989, 1994 and 1996. He played 228 games in his entire career and recorded 160 sacks. After the 1999 season, he retired from his playing career and worked as a coach for Green Bay packers in 2009.
