Right-handed pitcher and an American Baseball player of the Chicago Cubs, Kerry Wood was born on June 16, 1977 in Irving, Texas. He was married to former Sarah Pates of Waukegan, Illinois. Wood is currently under contract with the Chicago Cubs this 2007 season.
He studied in Irving Mac Arthur High School in Irving, Texas wherein he became popular during his first three seasons of high school baseball. During the 1995 amateur draft, the cubs drafted him during the first round. He had a great record when he accomplished 200 strikeouts in four different seasons and a selection of pitches from 1998 to 2003. However, he only started a total of 14 games in 2005-2006 and suffered from arm injuries.
His fifth career started on May 6, 1998 wherein he proves his talent with a one-hit 20-strikeout shutout against the Houston Astros. Despite missing the last month of the season due to elbow soreness, he had a 13-6 record when he finished the 1998 season and won the National League Rookie of the Year award. However, in the spring training of 1999 he had an ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and underwent Tommy John Surgery. But despite this, he was chosen as an all-star in 2003.
