Kenneth Alphouse Heintzelman was a former professional baseball player who was born on October 14, 1915 in Peruque, Missouri. He was drafted to the Major Baseball League in 1935 by the Boston Braves and signed with the team as an amateur free agent. However, by an unknown transaction, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates and started playing for the team in 1937. He made his very first Major League Baseball appearance on October 3, 1937 for the Pirates. On May 9, 1947, he was transferred to the Philadelphia Phillies which he played for from 1947 to 1952. According to reviews, he was an integral part of the Phillies’ win in the National League Pennant in 1950. Moreover, reviews said he had his best season in 1949 with the Phillies when he was selected as the Most Valuable player in the National League. He made the highest record of shutouts with 5 and logged a 17-10 win-loss record. In that season, he played 33 games and started 32 games and pitches 250 innings with 239 hits allowed. He had 84 earned runs allowed and hit 65 strikeouts. That year, he made two wild pitches and recorded a 3.02 earned run average.
Heintzelman spent 13 seasons in the National Hockey League and played his final game on August 13, 1952.
Ken died on August 14, 2000 at the age of 84 and his remains can be found at All Saints Cemetery in St. Peters, Missouri.
