Henin, known as Justine Henin-Hardenne for some time, was born in Liege, Belgium but now resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco. She started to play tennis at a rather young age and was coached by Carlos Rodriguez when she was 15. Rodriguez is still Henin’s coach to date.

Her professional career started in 1998 after she was given a wild card entry to the Antwerp Belgian Open and won the WTA Tour event, making Henin one of the five player who were able to win their very first WTA Tour event. Currently, Henin has won the Australian Open (in 2004), the French Open (in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007) and the US Open (in 2006 and 2007). Henin played for Belgium during the 2004 Athens Olympics and took home the gold medal.
